Consumer Advocate Group Issues Warning to DePuy ASR Recipients

The popular consumer advocate group, ‘US Drug Watchdog’, is warning any recipients of the DePuy ASR all-metal hip implant that was recalled in 2010 to be very cautious in dealing with any settlement offers that come from DePuy's representative, Broadspire. The watchdog group is highly concerned that recipients of the faulty DePuy ASR metal-on-metal hip implant may not receive the same type of offers of compensation through Broadspire as what might be offered through the Ohio federal court. [The Ohio federal courts will be the venue for the Multidistrict Litigation (MDL) resulting from the defective devices.]

USDW is particularly concerned about the integrity of Broadspire’s role in this process. "The move has prompted debate among industry and legal experts. Some see it as an efficient way to outsource a process that is unrelated to making artificial hips. Others see it as a way for J&J to limit payments while gaining control of medical records and other material that could be used against patients in court." (Reuters, August 2011)

An urgent recommendation to patients who received the Depuy metal-on-metal hip implant has been issued by US Drug Watchdog on their website - http://USDrugWatchdog.Com:

"We have heard that DePuy ASR hip implant recipients that are part of the national litigation might be getting significant compensation. In the strongest terms possible we are urging all recipients of the DePuy ASR to get a free legal review from a high caliber national law firm, before you accept any deal from anyone, and we will provide names, and specific phone numbers for the best possible attorneys…”

US Drug Watchdog urges all recipients of this recalled medical device, regardless if the device has failed or not, to be aware of the risk of premature failure of the Depuy ASR implant.

The following symptoms may occur in patients inserted with the faulty hip implants:

· Pain in the Hip Region;
· Problems Walking or Inability to Walk;
· Swelling of the Hip;
· General Discomfort;
· Lack of Flexibility;
· Elevated levels of Cobalt and Chromium in a recipients blood stream;
