Over 43,000 people in the United States have received the ASR hip replacement metal-on-metal implant, while over three times that many have received the Pinnacle metal hip implant. Although the ASR was voluntarily recalled by DePuy on August 26, 2010, the Pinnacle has not yet been recalled and both Johnson and Johnson and DePuy stand firm in stating the Pinnacle is safe despite sharing many of the same characteristics as the ASR implant.
