According to Drug Safety News, a recently published article in the journal Reproductive Sciences has possibly determined how talc exposure can lead to ovarian cancer. Three female scientists working at Detroit’s Wayne State University have devoted years of research in an attempt to understand how a woman’s exposure to talc can potentially lead to ovarian cancer. The researchers studied the in vitro application of talc—both to cancerous ovarian cells as well as to healthy cells.
August 31, 2020 - CA-125 stands for Cancer Antigen 125 and is a protein that can be found in higher levels in the blood of women who have ovarian cancer. CA-125 is released into the bloodstream after being produced on the cell surfaces. In about three-quarters of women who have advanced ovarian cancer, the CA-125 will be elevated, and in about half of those with early-stage ovarian cancer, the CA-125 will be elevated. August 09, 2020 - In July 2018, a St. Louis jury awarded nearly $4.7 billion ($4.14 billion in punitive damages and $550 million in compensatory damages) to 22 women and their families, after those women claimed asbestos in Johnson & Johnson’s talcum powder contributed to their ovarian cancer. Up until now, the ovarian cancer claims against J & J focused on the talc fibers, rather than asbestos.
