Should I Have My DePuy ASR Hip Revised?

Hip replacement refers to the procedure in which a damaged hip joint is surgically replaced by an artificial hip joint. In certain cases, serious complications can arise, forcing the patient to undergo DePuy ASR hip revision surgery. You may have had a DePuy ASR hip device implanted in your body. If so, you may wonder whether you should have your DePuy ASR hip revised, particularly in light of the fact that the DePuy ASR hip settlements at present are only covering those who have undergone revision surgery.  The ASR gained FDA approval in 2005, then DePuy and Johnson & Johnson issued a recall of the ASR in August, 2010.

Hundreds of adverse event reports were sent to the FDA in 2010, with more than a thousand more in 2011, following the recall. Most of those who underwent DePuy ASR hip revision surgery will be able to take part in the settlement agreement, and will also have the medical bills for their revision surgery taken care of. So, your question may be—should you undergo revision surgery if you have suffered no ill effects from the DePuy ASR hip implant? What if you wait until you do begin to suffer ill effects from your ASR, then find you are unable to take part in the settlement because the time limits have passed?

Or perhaps you have suffered some adverse effects such as DePuy ASR Hip Metallosis or metal toxicity, but are not sure those symptoms are serious enough to warrant a revision surgery. When all is said and done, you should consult your doctor in order to determine whether revision surgery is warranted in your particular case. If you have concerns about future problems, discuss those concerns with your doctor.

Symptoms of DePuy ASR Hip Metallosis

Those who have experienced problems with their DePuy ASR, may have experienced symptoms of metallosis. These symptoms include inflammation, pain in the hip, thigh or groin, deterioration or death of the tissue and bone, total failure of the hip implant or the necessity to undergo DePuy ASR hip revision surgery. DePuy ASR hip toxicity can include symptoms such as vision and hearing loss, neurological, renal, thyroid, gastrointestinal and cardiovascular issues, anxiety, depression, irritability, the development of pseudo-tumors, DNA disruptions and reproductive disorders.

Are You a Part of the DePuy ASR Hip Litigation?

If you are unrevised, you may still have filed suit against DePuy for the injuries you have suffered. At present, however, only those with revised ASR hips will receive a settlement award. The first round of DePuy ASR hip settlements took place in 2013; all those who had undergone revision surgery by August 31, 2013 could potentially take part in the settlement agreement. A second round of DePuy ASR hip settlements took place very recently, allowing those who had undergone DePuy ASR hip revision surgery prior to January 31, 2015 to take place in the settlement. It is estimated that of the more than 11,000 ASR lawsuits, over 9,000 will fall within the guidelines for these two settlements.

Do I Need a DePuy ASR Hip Lawyer?

After you speak to your doctor, it could be extremely beneficial to speak to a DePuy ASR hip lawyer regarding whether you should have your DePuy ASR revised. Your DePuy ASR hip lawyer may have information and insight into your particular situation which will help you make a sound decision for your future.
