CELEBRATING 24 YEARS IN BUSINESS OVER 300,000 CLIENTS REPRESENTED
Many of those who have taken the Type 2 diabetic drug, Victoza, may be wondering whether they are entitled to file a Victoza lawsuit to recover expenses related to adverse health symptoms developed after starting the drug. Victoza, manufactured by Novo Nordisk, gained FDA approval in 2010, although there were two FDA pharmacologists and one FDA Clinical Safety Reviewer who were opposed to approving the drug until further studies had been done. This March, a Drug Safety Communication was sent out to alert the public to a potential risk of Victoza in the development of pancreatitis, pancreatic cancer and thyroid cancer.
Byetta is a drug administered via injection twice daily—within an hour prior to breakfast and dinner. Byetta (exenatide) is intended to treat Type 2 diabetes, mimicking the effects of incretins which are hormones produced and released by the intestines when a person eats a meal. The human-glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) increases insulin secretions from the pancreas, slows the absorption of glucose in the stomach and effectively slows the speed of the glucagon. Exenatide is a synthesized version of a substance found in the saliva of the Southwestern Gila monster and is 50% identical to a hormone found naturally in the human body. GLP-1 has been found to reduce the appetite by slowing the rate at which food leaves the stomach—although patients are cautioned against using Byetta as a treatment for obesity.
The theory behind the all-metal hip implant was to allow those younger hip implant recipient patients to be able to go for a longer period of time before they were required to undergo revision surgery. The prior hip implant designs were primarily made from ceramic and polyethylene, and while these materials exhibited a reasonable success rate, they simply did not last long enough, with a typical length of time before revision surgery being approximately 8-10 years. The all-metal hip implants were expected to last almost double that amount of time, making them an exciting, innovative new development in hip implants. Problems soon began to arise with the metal-on-metal hip implants, with several models being recalled due to the risk of metallosis.
