If you are the recipient of a DePuy hip implant device it is very important that you know which brand you were implanted with so you can be aware of the individual characteristics. Of course the primary difference between the ASR and its successor, the Pinnacle, is that the ASR was recalled in August, 2010, while the Pinnacle has not been recalled.

The first DePuy ASR hip implant trial began on January 25^th in the California Superior Court in Los Angeles County. The case, Kransky v. DePuy, revolves around Loren Kransky, a 65-year old man who received a DePuy ASR hip implant in 2007 and was forced to undergo revision surgery just five years later, in 2012.

Many people have been injured by the Stryker Rejuvenate and ABGII modular hip implant, however because neither implant is considered a “true” metal-on-metal implant, it is expected that these people may have a more difficult time filing a lawsuit than those who received implants such as the DePuy ASR. Nonetheless there is evidence that prior to the safety warning and recall of the ABGII and Rejuvenate, Stryker had received notice from at least two orthopedic surgeons who reported adverse reactions on the part of their patients implanted with the hip devices. In FDA summaries, one of the surgeons stated at least six of his patients had developed symptoms of metal sensitivity within a short time period following their implantation surgery. The second surgeon listed at least ten patients who experienced adverse health issues following implantation.

Many recipients of hip implants who believed they were being implanted with a safe implant have found to their dismay that they received a metal-on-metal hip implant which has since been found to bring very real health risks. DePuy Orthotics, along with many other all-metal hip manufacturers, have been under scrutiny and many of these implants—including DePuy’s ASR have been recalled due to risks of failure and metallosis.
