Hip Metallosis Lawyers & Lawsuits: Birmingham, Alabama

Stryker Hip Settlement Alert for Birmingham Alabama Residents - there has been a 1.4 billion dollar settlement in the Stryker Hip Implant MDL. Please take the time to get fully informed about the Stryker Master Settlement Agreement.

What Led to the Stryker Rejuvenate Hip Recall? The Stryker Rejuvenate hip recall occurred in July, 2012, along with the Stryker ABGII hip recall. Prior to these recalls the FDA received over 300 adverse event reports regarding the two hip devices, and in April, 2012, Stryker sent out an Urgent Field Safety Notification to hospitals and surgeons. In this notification, Stryker stated the Rejuvenate and ABGII had higher-than-normal rates of failure and were subject to fretting and corrosion which could lead to excessive amounts of metal ion debris being released into the body.

Following the Stryker Rejuvenate hip recall, lawsuits began being filed against Stryker, and until early November, 2014, there were more than 4,000 lawsuits pending. Stryker reached a settlement agreement with a portion of those plaintiff, specifically the patients who had undergone revision surgery prior to November 2, 2014. It is important you be aware of your Birmingham, Alabama Stryker Rejuvenate hip statute of limitations which is one year from the time your injury is discovered—or should have been discovered.Only a well qualified Birmingham Alabama hip metallosis lawyer can properly determine how much time you have to file a hip metallosis claim.

When You Suffer From DePuy ASR Hip Metal Debris: All patients with a metal hip implant can suffer from adverse reactions related to the release of metal ion debris. When the metal components of a hip implant device slide back and forth against one another during periods of activity, it is inevitable the surfaces will wear and release microscopic metal ions into the body. DePuy ASR hip metal debris is released into the joint space, and potentially into the bloodstream, becoming responsible for symptoms of metallosis and DePuy ASR hip chromium and cobalt metal poisoning.

Patients with known kidney problems, those who have a history of metal sensitivity or a suppressed immune system, those who are receiving high doses of corticosteroids and women of childbearing age are at a much higher risk of developing DePuy ASR hip metallosis and metal poisoning as a result of DePuy ASR hip metal debris. Other than metallosis and metal poisoning, patients can develop synovitis, ALVAL and pseudo-tumors when DePuy ASR hip metal debris is present.

Have the Stryker ABGII Hip Dangers Affected Your Life? Following implantation of your Stryker ABGII, you may have seen a significant number of Stryker ABGII hip dangers. Synovitis is the inflammation of the hip joint lining which may occur long before the patient has realized he or she is injured. As synovitis progresses, the hip joint can appear puffy, and may be warm to the touch due to increased blood flow. The only way to identify synovitis is a patient MRI. Pseudo-tumors are usually non-cancerous, non-infectious, space-occupying tumors in the hip region common to those with metal hip implants.

Symptoms can include hip or groin pain, swelling in the upper leg or foot and ankle, clicking or popping noises in the hip area, weakness, immobility, or a discernible lump in the hip area. ALVAL (aseptic lymphocyte dominated vasculitis associated lesion) causes pain, and the inability to perform a straight-leg raise. When a physician aspirates fluids from the area, it will be thick and grey-green when ALVAL is present. Other Stryker ABGII hip dangers include Stryker ABGII hip metallosis and Stryker ABGII hip metal blood poisoning.

Symptoms of DePuy Pinnacle Hip Metallosis: DePuy Pinnacle hip metallosis occurs when the cobalt and chromium ions burrow into the tissues of the hip area. Those who are experiencing DePuy Pinnacle hip metallosis may have severe inflammation in the hip area as well as chronic pain in the hip, groin or thigh. As the DePuy Pinnacle hip metallosis progresses, the patient can suffer tissue deterioration and tissue and bone necrosis. The DePuy Pinnacle hip implant may fail entirely and the patient may be forced to undergo DePuy Pinnacle hip revision surgery.

Are You Suffering From Stryker ABGII Hip Metal Blood Poisoning? When the cobalt and chromium ions find their way to the bloodstream, the patient may develop symptoms of Stryker ABGII hip metal blood poisoning. These symptoms can include the following: diminishment or loss of vision and hearing, reproductive disorders, neurological disorders, anxiety, depression, irritability, skin rashes, the development of pseudo-tumors, alterations in DNA, renal and thyroid disorders, the development of certain types of cancers, asthma and other respiratory disorders, gastrointestinal disorders and, in some patients, the inability to distinguish between sweet and salty tastes.

The Latest on the Birmingham, Alabama Hip Metallosis Litigation: In addition to the Stryker hip litigation, DePuy faced over 11,000 lawsuits over the recalled ASR device, however approximately 7,000 of those were settled for $2.5 billion at the end of 2013. The remainder of those suits will be set for mediation and trial. DePuy is also facing over 5,400 lawsuits related to the Pinnacle hip device. Only one of the Pinnacle lawsuits has gone to trial, and was decided in favor of the defendant in late October, 2014.
